SustainHer: Empowering Women, One Stitch at a Time
SustainHer was born in Haiti through a project co-funded by the Region of Sardinia and implemented by the Sardinian NGO Piccoli Progetti Possibili in partnership with the local organization OK L'Imda. The goal: to produce and promote the use of washable menstrual pads, both to prevent hygiene-related illnesses and to offer employment opportunities to women in the community.
Launched in December 2024, the project began its first concrete steps in January 2025:
-
Community Awareness
Through outreach in local markets, schools, and orphanages, we promoted the use of reusable pads to improve women’s health, break menstrual taboos, and empower women with knowledge about their bodies. -
Training & Capacity Building
We delivered workshops on communication, international relations, marketing, and administration to 12 women selected from over 30 applicants. A smaller group continued with hands-on training in sewing washable pads. -
Formation of the Cooperative
The final group of selected women now forms the heart of SustainHer.
Looking ahead, our goal is to grow: purchase more sewing machines, expand production, and hire new women to increase our impact.
Each of our products is handmade with care, starting with the careful selection of fabrics.
We are committed to high quality and low environmental impact—because sustainability and dignity go hand in hand.
